Learn how to encode videos for optimal web playback
Note: Simian will create a viewable proxy file on upload if necessary. A file does not need to be encoded before it is uploaded. However, if you do not need to deliver an original source file, it is encouraged that you use our Real Time Video Encoder or follow the guidelines below. This will ensure that you don’t use unnecessary storage space.
Guidelines
To ensure the best possible quality of compression, begin with using the highest resolution source files available.
Video Format: For optimal playback, browser and platform compatibility, we recommend the H.264 video codec with an AAC audio codec in MP4 file format.
Bitrate: The higher the resolution, the higher the bitrate required to maintain quality. Refer to the table below for recommendations by resolution.
