Please describe how your company managed daily workflow and media sharing needs prior to using Simian.

Before Simian, Great City primarily used Wiredrive. Aside from technical or infrastructure upgrades, the workflow was very similar. The core function of Wiredrive was to get cuts of spots/promos/TV shows/films into the hands of those who needed viewable links for approval. Our audio mixers or video editors would output low-res files, upload those to Wiredrive, and send on the link to the client. Wiredrive for the most part, succeeded at this.

Please describe in detail, the needs, challenges or problems your company faces on a daily basis and how Simian has addressed these needs, challenges or problems.

There were a number of reasons why we left Wiredrive and began looking for alternate media sharing platforms. Mainly, we had some concerns with the way Wiredrive structured its billing around overuse. We found ourselves constantly being billed for exceeding our monthly capacity quota by a small percentage. We asked Wiredrive to “just cap us” and not allow us to exceed our maximum monthly usage. However, this seemed to be a principal tactic in their billing structure and they would not change it. We then decided we needed support from a company who understood the flexibility needed in post workflows. Simian right off the bat was willing to work with us in that regard. Also, as is with insurance, equipment, and rent, you often need to shop prices around looking for a better deal from time to time. Simian at the time had better rates for what we felt were the same core offerings.

In addition, Simian also offered more flexibility in terms of branding. Often times, we send presentations that are then shared with a massive number of people who represent a potential client base. These links would eventually find their way up management chains and across networks to celebrities and talent agents. We wanted to easily capture this advertising potential. In order to leverage this, we decided we needed a bit more customization over how our presentations looked. Wiredrive presentations always looked like Wiredrive. We wanted a tool that helped clients feel like our services were unique, intentional and curated and Simian offered a wide array of branding options that helped us achieve this.

Another big plus to choosing Simian was the Client FTP function. While we had FTP functionality already, Simian helped us further streamline the workflow.

Please describe in detail, the overall benefit that was achieved as a result of using Simian. This can include additional revenue or products related to a specific job or project.

Aside from the aforementioned benefits, we have noticed a few other enhancements. Just as we switched to Simian, Great City was in the midst of a rather large growth spurt. These times can be difficult to manage from an infrastructure standpoint. You want to grow while staying flexible. Simian allowed us to expand quickly and keep things organized. The media management capabilities of Simian proved to be very powerful and useful.

Simian support has also been key for us. With Wiredrive we always felt a little less acknowledged then some of their larger clients. We have never felt that way with Simian.
