Simian Encoding Analyzer

Topic: Knowledge Base / Media Library

When combining higher-rated content with lower-than-average network connections, the viewing experience can become degraded.

When a video is uploaded to the Media Library, the Simian Encoding Analyzer will extract and analyze the meta data to identify its bit rate and fast start capability.  Simian will generate a warning label for files that have high bit rates or lack fast start capability and flags the video in the Media Library.

Warning Messages:
- This file exceeds a bit rate of 1500 kb/sec and may cause playback issues on slower internet connections.
- Fast Start is not enabled and spot is not optimized for web viewing. This will affect media playback.

Diagnosis:
In order to view the meta data associated with a file, click into the Media Library, and click on a spot. This will bring up the 'Edit Media' window. Click on the META tab to display all warnings and information about the spot.

Not all users will experience difficulty with video playback. Older computers, weak wireless signals and overloaded network connections are most likely to cause problems.
