Connection Speeds
Topic: Knowledge Base / File Encoding / Uploading
There is a wide range of internet connection types available. Each type has a different level of performance. Below are a few of the most common connection types:
Cable is the most common type of connection. There are different speed types available but the most common is with a downloading speed of 10 Mbps and uploading speed of 1 Mbps. This is commonly found in homes and small businesses.
DSL is another common internet connection type. DSL speeds commonly vary by location and typically the farther you are from the hub, the slower the upload and download speeds are. This is also commonly found in homes and small businesses.
T1 is a common, more costly alternative to cable and DSL because T1 connections reliably provide 1.5 Mbps upload and download speeds. This is what most businesses use.
Fiber Optic is commercially known as FiOS. FiOS costs about the same as cable or DSL, but has downloading speed of 20 Mbps and uploading speed of 5 Mbps. FiOS is still fairly new but is spreading thru out the country. This is also most commonly found in homes but some small businesses are adopting this new version of fiber optic technology.
