Client FTP
Topic: Knowledge Base / Projects
The Client FTP section of a Project is the perfect tool to use when someone outside of your company needs to get a file to you for a project that you are working on. Using this method they can get the file onto your account without you having to give them a direct login to your Simian account. Simply Click on "Client FTP" in your Project, then click on "Add new user". You can then setup a user name and password for them to use to login to the FTP folder of your Project to upload the file or files. When they access this FTP folder, they do not see anything else in your project other then what might already be in the FTP folder.
Once the files have been uploaded, you can again click on "Client FTP" to find the files that have been uploaded. You now have two choices. You can import the file directly into one of your project folders by selecting the check box next to the file's name in the "FILE NAME" field and then clicking on the "Select project destination folder" drop down at the bottom of the file list. Select the folder you want to move the file to, then click on the blue "IMPORT" button. This will move the file directly into that project folder for you. If you would like to download this file to your hard drive or network drive instead, you can do so by clicking on the "Download" button that is displayed under the "DIRECT LINK" field.
You can also setup an FTP login for your self as an alternative means of uploading files to your project and this is sometimes a necessity since there are a few limitations of uploading files to your project using the standard web based version of "Upload Project Files". If your upload needs exceed any of the following below, please upload via the Client FTP instead.
1 - You are uploading a single file that is more then 100 MB.
2 - You are uploading a group of files that exceeds a total of 500 MB.
3 - You are uploading a group of more then 100 files.
When uploading via Client FTP, your only restriction is the amount of space you have left on your Simian account.
NOTE: Please note that after creating an FTP login, it takes about 10 minutes for the login to activate. Any attempts to login prior to activation will result in a failed login. If you still can not login in to the FTP after 10 minutes, please contact Simian Support so we can trouble shoot the issue for you.
